Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board has several key responsibilities regarding provision for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). These are:
- Joint Commissioning: We commission services jointly for children and young people (up to age 25) with SEND, including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Partnership Development: We work in partnership with local authorities to develop the Local Offer of services for children and young people.
- Integrated Assessments: We ensure practitioners and clinicians support the integrated Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment process.
- Personal Health Budgets: We agree on Personal Health Budgets for children and young people with EHC plans.
Commissioned services
We provide a range of health services specifically for children and young people with additional needs, including:
- Therapy services: speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy.
- Nursing and paediatrics.
- Child and adolescent mental health services (including Neurodiversity).
- Equipment provision.
- Continuing care and complex care assessments and packages.
- Personal Health Budgets for various support items.
Designated Medical/Clinical Officer (DMO/DCO)
Our Designated Medical/Clinical Officers support the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board in meeting statutory responsibilities for children and young people with SEND. They serve as points of contact for the Integrated Care Board, local authorities, schools, and colleges when specialist health advice is needed.
