From April 2023, Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board has been responsible for commissioning Dental Services in mid and south Essex. Since then, we have continued to increase the amount of NHS dental appointments available each year across mid and south Essex.
We have also introduced the following specific initiatives to help residents of all ages to access NHS dental services:
Increasing access to NHS dental care

We are continuing to improve the availability of NHS dental services.
Additional evening, weekend, and bank holidays appointments are helping patients with urgent needs as well as those who have not had access to dentist in the past two years to access care.
Dental access initiativeCare Homes

Care home residents are not always able to communicate when they are experiencing dental pain or discomfort and are often not physically able to travel to a dental practice. That’s why it’s important for dental care to be delivered within care homes wherever possible.
Care Home Dental InitiativeChildren and Young People

Our commissioned school’s programme aims to improve young residents oral health by giving them access to oral health education and assessment in their school. Developing healthy habits early in life can help to prevent tooth decay, support overall wellbeing, and get young people off to the best possible start in life.
