Mid and South Essex ICB does not fund Sacral Nerve Stimulation for any condition.
Sacral nerve stimulation is a type of neuromodulation therapy that uses small electrical impulses to alter the activity of the sacral nerves that control the functions of the bladder and bowel motion. It is a treatment for people who have faecal incontinence, constipation, urinary or pelvic floor disorders, often when other medical or surgical procedures have not worked.
NHS England is the responsible commissioner for sacral nerve stimulation for urinary and faecal incontinence:
- Clinical Commissioning Policy: Sacral Nerve Stimulation for Overactive Bladder
- Clinical Commissioning Policy: Sacral nerve stimulation (SNS) for faecal incontinence (Adult)
