Executive Chief Nurse
Dr Giles Thorpe joined NHS Mid and South Essex in 2023 as Executive Chief Nursing Officer. Prior to this he has held the positions of Chief Nurse and Director of Infection Prevention and Control at East Suffolk and North East Essex NHS Foundation Trust and Director of Clinical Quality and Deputy Chief Nurse at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Addenbrooke’s). He has also been Deputy Director of Nursing at Colchester Hospital and before that Deputy Director of Clinical Governance at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals. Giles has also held national roles at NHS Blood and Transplant and is a graduate of the Nye Bevan programme run by the NHS Leadership Academy.
Giles trained as a nurse 20 years ago after working in the City of London.
Giles completed his professional doctorate in health services management at the University of Essex in 2022 and was also awarded and an Honorary Professorship in the School of Health and Social Care at the University.
Giles lives in Essex.
