A familiar face has joined the board of NHS Mid and South Essex as the organisation welcomes Tom Abell as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Tom starts today (8th August) as the substantive CEO following Tracy Dowling’s tenure as interim CEO for the past nine months.
With a profound commitment to improving healthcare services and extensive experience within the NHS, Tom brings with him a wealth of knowledge and leadership to our community.
Formerly CEO of the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust during its successful journey to come out of special measures, and a senior director at both Basildon and Brentwood Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and our three local hospitals, Tom has a career in health care spanning more than 20 years based mainly in mid and south Essex.
Tom, who also lives locally, said:
It’s fantastic to be back at what feels like home and to be joining NHS Mid and South Essex on the next stage of its journey since it formed in 2022.
We do have some immediate issues, not least in ensuring we better meet the needs of our local residents, supporting our staff, and making sure we are spending taxpayers’ money wisely but within our means.
I look forward to leading the charge and working together to build a better future for our patients, staff, and communities.
Tom Abell, Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
