Falls Prevention Event at Southend Hospital

Join us to learn how to prevent falls

The Provide Community Mobile Delivery Unit will be at Southend Hospital on Thursday, 13th March from 9:30am to 12:30pm in the hospital car park, offering vital information and support on falls prevention.

Between April 2023 and November 2024, over 8,270 people were transported to Southend Hospital as a result of a fall. This important event aims to provide practical advice and guidance to residents and staff about effective ways to prevent falls.

Why this matters

Falls can have serious consequences, particularly for older adults, leading to injuries, hospital admissions, and loss of independence. Many falls are preventable with the right knowledge and support.

Who’s involved

This event is a collaboration organised by the Frailty and Falls Working Group, which meets monthly and is chaired by the South East Essex Alliance.

Services available on the day

A range of health and social care professionals will be present to offer advice and support:

EPUT – Carers Intensive Support Team: Advice and support for carers
EPUT – Urgent Community Response Team: Mini health checks
Essex County Council: Information about technology that can help you live independently at home
Southend City Council – Occupational Therapy: Advice and guidance about home safety, grab rails, and other assistive equipment
Essex Fire and Rescue: Information about smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms
Havens Hospice: Physiotherapy advice to maintain strength and planning for later life
Age Concern: Information about classes, befriending services, and local support
Everyone Health: Exercise classes and physical activity advice
SEE Alliance: Fall-proof checklists, ‘Able like Mabel’ resources, and examples of safe footwear to prevent falls
