The Mid and South Essex Health Integrated Care System’s (ICS) Champion Community Network has joined forces with Essex County Council and Diabetes UK to host another free learning event.
This time the event is coming to Brentwood and will take place in the Main Hall at Bishops Hill Adult Community College, Rayleigh Road, Hutton, CM13 1BD on Wednesday 20 July from 9.30am-4.30pm.
This informative but fun-packed day is specifically tailored to the needs of adults with learning disabilities who have type 1 or type 2 diabetes, and their carers, support workers, family member or friends.
There is an open invitation to all staff who work in health and social care as the day will give them a better understanding of the daily life challenges experienced by people with learning disabilities and diabetes.
The event is free to attend. Lunch with refreshments throughout the day will be provided.
The day will include sessions on:
- Signs and symptoms of diabetes
- Healthy eating with a Dietician
- Eye care
- Foot care
- Myth busting and a quiz from Diabetes UK
- Keeping fit with Sport for Confidence Active Essex
- Introduction to the Diabetes Champion Community Network
All participants will receive a certificate at the end of the day.
We are delighted to be once again working with Mid and South Essex Health and Care Partnership and Essex County Council to bring this wellness day to the community.
David Robinson, East of England Improving Care Manager at Diabetes UK
The feedback from our first such event in Chelmsford in March was extremely positive. It provided a relaxed environment where people with learning disabilities could meet their peers, share their experiences and ask any questions of professionals. Hence, we want to reach out to more people with learning disabilities and diabetes by offering them another opportunity to come together in an informal environment, learn more about their condition and how to manage it effectively.
It will be a friendly, interesting and supportive day packed full of useful information and some myth-busting too. Please come and join us.
