Our specialist asthma nurses combined education with fun to teach children with asthma about how to best manage their condition.
To coincide with the national #AskAboutAsthma campaign, our Children’s Asthma and Allergy team organised a Laser Tag party for children who are registered with their service.
Nineteen children aged between nine and 15 years old took part in the event at the MegaCentre in Brook Road, Rayleigh, on Friday 15 September.
The fun-packed evening began with a presentation by our nurses, followed by three games of Laser Tag, and then dinner for the children.

Our nurses gave a presentation on inhalers, asthma symptoms, common asthma triggers, the importance of having an annual asthma review with their GP or asthma nurse and a care plan in place, and how to interpret the care plan.
They also gave demonstrations on inhaler technique and how to take a peak flow reading, followed by a short presentation on the dangers of vaping.
While children were playing Laser Tag, parents had the opportunity to chat with our nurses and ask any questions.
Our nurses cleared up a number of misconceptions for both children and parents. The evening was funded by Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System and was a great success.
