A new clinic will open this summer offering support services for thousands of people living in Essex who struggle with gambling addiction.
New national figures, reveal that around 1,400 patients were referred for help last year, marking a significant increase on the previous 12 months.
The clinic, based in Thurrock, will be open to all residents across mid and south Essex and is one of seven being rolled out across the country.
Record numbers of people are coming to the NHS for help to treat their gambling addiction, with referrals up by more than a third compared to last year.
“Gambling addiction has the power to destroy people’s lives, we are hopeful that the new clinic in Thurrock will be of benefit to all residents that are struggling and provides a platform of help and assistance that can assist with their ongoing situation.”
Dr Anna Davey, local GP leader at NHS Mid and South Essex
The clinic will treat people through different therapies, support groups and care. Appointments will be available online as well as face to face.
NHS teams will also offer support to patients’ family members, partners, and carers.
