Lung Health Checks

Thurrock

Thurrock was identified as an area with high rates of smoking and poor outcomes for people with Lung cancer, alongside Luton both within the East of England Cancer Alliance. In November 2020 Thurrock launched the targeted lung health checks programme for current or previous smokers aged 55 and under 75. 15,000 patients have been invited and over 5,500 lung health checks have been completed. There have been over 27 lung cancers found, most at an earlier stage, making it more treatable. The programme will finish in 2024.

Southend-on-Sea

Southend has also been identified as a phase 3 area and began its programme in May 2022, where 17,000 patients will be eligible for a free lung health check.
