The NHS in mid and south Essex is asking residents to help make patient care safer by becoming champions of patient safety.
Local people with an interest in patient safety and healthcare more generally can now apply to be a patient safety partner and help support the local NHS.
Patient safety partners are people from the local community who have personal experiences of NHS care. They make sure that the patient voice is heard at every level and work alongside NHS staff to improve patient safety at NHS organisations.
The voice of residents is paramount in delivering the best health services for the people of mid and south Essex. That’s why we are looking for motivated people to join us to influence safety and quality at NHS organisations.
We are seeking positive and enthusiastic people to work with us as advisors and share with us experiences of healthcare locally. If you can demonstrate a genuine commitment to developing and improving the safety of health services, we want to hear from you.
Dr Giles Thorpe, Executive Chief Nursing Officer for Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board
In 2019 The NHS published a national strategy on improving patient safety and building a safer culture in NHS organisations. The strategy highlighted the importance of involving patients, their families and carers, and the public in improving the safety of NHS care. It set out the principles behind recruiting patient safety partners and the benefits they can bring to care.
The first members of the public to become patient safety partners in mid and south Essex joined in 2022. The patient safety partners work with the NHS by attending committees and meetings and are involved with training staff members around patient safety.
The additional patient safety partner roles will be supporting the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System. You can find out more about the roles by clicking the button below.
